Is your nonprofit website fast enough?

Slow pages lose visitors, especially on phones. If your home page takes more than a few seconds to show up, many people leave before they see your Donate button.

Check your speed for free

Our Website Checkup times how long your home page takes to respond. For a deeper look, Google’s free PageSpeed Insights tool tests the phone and desktop versions and lists what slows them down.

The usual fixes

  • Shrink images. Photos straight from a phone or camera are often several megabytes. Resize them to the width they are shown at and compress them before uploading.
  • Remove what you don’t use. Old plugins, sliders and heavy page builders add weight to every page.
  • Turn on caching. Most hosts and WordPress caching plugins can serve ready-made pages instead of building them for every visitor.
  • Limit outside scripts. Each chat widget, tracker or embedded feed adds load time.

Keep it fast

Re-check after big changes, like a new theme or a new plugin, so a slow page never sneaks back in.
